Excelsior Wattles

Wattle & Logs

Our excelsior wattles are designed to reduce hydraulic energy and filter sediment-laden runoff in channels and on slopes. Manufactured from excelsior fibers contained within a durable tubular netting, the wattles are flexible enough to conform to soil surfaces and are secured by staking to form a temporary, water-permeable structure.

Once installed, excelsior wattles provide fast, efficient filtration with superior flow interception, filtration, and containment performance. They are specifically engineered for use on slopes to minimize displacement of in-situ sediments, in channels as small check dams, and to restrict sediment-laden flow from inlets. The wattles are 100% biodegradable, and custom lengths are available to meet project requirements.

In general, excelsior wattles offer improved filtration of runoff waters, help prevent check dam blowouts, reduce water bypass around check dams, limit the spread of non-native vegetation, and are typically easier to handle and install than straw bales.
